Shishi no Reigan Viewpoint -Shikoku 88 pilgrimage, Yashima Temple

Shikoku

Since ancient times, Shikoku has been a place far from the country’s center and a place for various ascetic trainings. It is said that Daishi (Kōbo Daishi, Kukai), who was born in Sanuki, was also trained in this area. He selected 88 temples and other places to create 88 sacred sites in Shikoku. Traveling through the 88 sites of the sacred ground, the master’s sites is a pilgrimage. The original pilgrimage was centered on monks. Over the years, as people’s faith in Daishi (Kobo Daishi religion) has grown, pilgrimages have taken place throughout Japan. It has become a sacred place everyone wishes to visit at least once.

On the Shikoku 88 pilgrimage, Yashima Temple sits atop the mountain. A pilgrimage road, a climbing route, and an ancient route can be explored on the mountain. If you have the time and physical strength, try walking on these roads.

Shishi no Reigan Viewpoint is an observation deck with an impressive view of Takamatsu City, the Seto Inland Sea, Ogijima, and Megijima. It is Shishi no Reigan Viewpoint. As you approach the observation deck, you’ll see the viewpoint’s namesake rock, which appears to be roaring at the sea like a lion or a shishi. As well as wishing good luck and warding off evil spirits, you can also experience karaoke-nage.
