Can I Tap My Credit Card on This Japan Train?

Hidden Gems in Japan · travel planning tool

Check a supported example journey before you reach the gate. This version covers 22 selected Keikyu, Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway and Osaka Metro journey examples, including two Haneda scenarios. It is not a live route planner, a complete 11-operator station matrix, or a promise that your bank will authorize a tap.

Haneda layover: can you use a credit card instead of Suica?

Sometimes—but only when the whole journey stays within participating coverage. Keikyu accepts eligible contactless bank cards and devices at its participating gates, including the Haneda Airport stations. Supported Keikyu journeys can also connect into participating Toei service, but this does not make a bank card valid across every Tokyo railway.

JR East is the key limitation: its regular ticket gates do not accept ordinary contactless credit-card taps for entry or exit. If any part of the route uses JR East, do not plan a bank-card-only journey. Use Suica/PASMO or a valid ticket for the JR portion.

Keikyu and the participating regional service offer adult fares only for bank-card tapping. A child age 6–11 is normally better served by a child IC card or child ticket when the discounted child fare applies. Each paying traveler also needs their own eligible card or device; one bank card cannot be passed back and tapped repeatedly for a family or group.

For an Android visitor, an eligible card in Google Pay can reduce the need to obtain a physical IC card on a fully supported route. It is not a universal replacement for Suica/PASMO. Use the same eligible physical card or the same device to enter and exit—a phone and its underlying physical card count as different payment media.

What the answer means

A supported result means only that the listed operator and station pair are within this version’s documented coverage. Find the dedicated bank-card contactless reader at the correct operator’s gate; it is not the transport IC reader used for Suica, PASMO or ICOCA. Each paying rider needs their own eligible payment medium.

A child age 6–11 may use tap-to-ride only with an eligible card in the child’s own name where the operator permits it, and the adult fare is charged. A child-fare IC card or child ticket may be better. This checker never promises a child fare from a bank card.

Station names can represent multiple operators. Check the line shown in the result. Do not use this checker for an unlisted trip, through travel beyond the named operator, a pass, a service disruption, or an airport transfer without checking the operator’s current rules.

The regional announcement does not prove that every station of all 11 operators accepts tap-to-ride. Operator coverage and gates can change; recheck the official page before travel. This prototype does not quote live fares, plan routes, process card data, submit form data, or track your selection.
